How are your investments doing?

Write the money you have in each sleeve. You will see the balance in dollars and, from the second month, the return as well. The colourful table stays as a sample until you add your first month.

Example

This table is an example. The first month you add replaces it with your own log.

Return by piece

How each piece and the whole portfolio have done over different periods.

How it works

Log the balance of your portfolio once a month and this page shows how your investments are really doing: the return of each month, of the last three months, of this year and since you started, for the whole portfolio and for each piece.

The key detail is the box “Put in this month”. A deposit is not a return: if you had $10,000, added $500 and now have $10,500, you earned nothing. The page takes your own money out of the result, so the percentage only measures what your investments earned.

An example

Someone goes from $10,000 to $14,400 in a year and thinks they made 44%. But they added $300 every month, $3,600 in total. Taking that out, the investments earned about $790, a 6.7% year. Deposits can also hide a losing month: the balance goes up while the investments went down.

Frequently asked questions

How is the return calculated?

Each month compares the new balance with the previous one, minus what you put in, and counts deposits as made in the middle of the month. Months are then chained together.

Do dividends and fees count?

Yes, automatically: dividends that stay invested are already in your balance and fees have already been taken out. You only need to add the money you put in.

How do I know if my return is good?

Compare it with a plain world index fund over the same months. If you trail it year after year, simplifying is usually the honest move.

Is it free?

Yes, for your first ten logs. Unlimited history is part of Wealth Atlas Pro.
